I have been working at Parsons Brinckerhoff

    Pros

The job projects have general societal interest, such as bridges, roadways, public transportation, and such. Great government contracts keep the work steady.

    Cons

It is very conservative in general. The cultures can be a bit stuffy at times, but at least the politics are kept to a minimum.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have pay packages that are based more in performance. That there be more balanced gender ratios in all the departments.

High pressure environment where the bottom line is all that counts.

I have been working at Parsons Brinckerhoff

    Pros

Very friendly people and some genuinely talented staff who (mostly) care about what they do.

    Cons

High pressure environment. Pressure is placed on technical staff to be 'billable'. Seems to be a big disconnect between senior management who talk 'values' and middle management who value profitability.

Business processes haven't kept pace with growth of the company and there are far too many forms to be filled out for even mundane tasks. Pointlessly convoluted staff review process that has no relevance to anything else.

Constant reorganisation over the past few years has meant many staff are cynical and burned out.

The company is very big at talking up people, initatives etc, but they always peter out quickly. Many of the management seem to have no idea what the staff in the company actually do.

Training opportunities are poor (it impacts billability) and the people in charge of training seem to think that 'how to use powerpoint' or 'OH&S' count as technical training.

Expect to work long hours when there is lots of work, but don't expect compensatory short hours when work is light. Everyone has to be at their desk beavering away at 8.30 am. Contrary to some other comments, jobs *are* on the line when work runs short.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop doing surveys and start talking to your staff. Fix your business systems to get some quality out there. And no more reorganisations!
