Current Employee - Executive Assistant Manager  in  Los Angeles, CA
Current Employee - Executive Assistant Manager in Los Angeles, CA

I have been working at Party City full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

Lots of seasonal changes to give you variety in the work. Stays busy all the time. Overall it's a very easy job.

Cons

Don't get much chance to get promoted. Very little if any development. Pay is below average. There is very little opportunity to manage anything outside of the Halloween season, mostly you are doing most of the work yourself ie. stocking, cashiering, zoning, etc.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you wonder why you have no bench of people to fill open positions, take a look at the lack of development going on in the company. If you don't allocate resources to it, it won't happen.

Current Employee - Store Manager in Atlanta, GA

I have been working at Party City full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Decent pay at store manager level.
Advancement opportunity if you don't want to have a personal life.

    Cons

    Very task driven.
Zero training for associates and very little more for management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Instead of managing the "processes", try working with the managers. Too quick to hire and fire associates and managers.

Former Employee - Retail Sales Associate in Miami, FL

I worked at Party City part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good company, competitive salaries, easy work, fun-spirited job and good for a first job.

    Cons

Worst hours, not flexible, rude customers, rude managers, and bad service.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Don't pretend like you like someone and you're going to keep them and then you let them go. At least have the decency to call someone and let them know they no longer have a job.
    - Don't show inconsistencies in your managerial skills (treat one person one way and the next different).\
    - Don't reprimand your employees for going the extra mile to help a customer, you should encourage great customer service because a lot of people come in complaining about not being helped.
    - Don't treat your employees who are working temporarily differently as if they don't matter because they're seasonal
    - Don't train your team one way and then expect them to act another way
