Pros

A lot of nice people and a great product. Huge potential.

Cons

Mediocre management. Was a daily frustration dealing with managers making bad decisions even on the simple stuff. The core group all think the same way, so there was no way to get through to them. Low employee moral and job satisfaction.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house. Hire outside management with successful track record and high standards. That product is a winner.

I worked at PatientSafe Solutions full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Some staff at PatientSafe are actually in the correct roles, and they truly believe in making the company successful and improving the lives of patients, as well as enhancing work-flow for direct patient care professionals. Many pleasant people work at this company. And lets not forget...donuts or bagels every Wednesday at the home office!!

    Cons

    Unfortunately the lack of leadership competence, structure, and a true unified vision will forever plague this company until changes at the very top are made. The current CEO loves to sing the phrase "why not us" as a pep rally slogan to encourage staff to support his lack of vision and continued failures. Here is the reason Why Not Us;

    EXECUTIVE:
-No Organizational Chart outlining interdepartmental interaction.
-A complete lack of clear, actionable direction with deadlines.
-No “Future” Org Chart to have a direction and path to move forward for organizational success.
-No Operations leader with authority to escalate, crash, and focus teams on priorities.
-No accountability for deadlines, actions, and due-outs.
-A complete lack of cultural integrity: our word means nothing. Meetings routinely start several minutes late, deadlines are routinely missed, development milestones are never on time, go-lives are routinely push backward.
      - A mission statement that is an absolute joke: It is an impossibility to achieve, offers no direction, and our product does not live up to it.
      - Actively discourages clinician based initiatives and discussions that could improve the product and user experience.
      - Clinicians are not a respected entity of PSS, the are looked at as an essential dept for customer facing activity, but clinical opinion and especially clinical leadership is silenced and not a part of any higher level discussions

HUMAN RESOURCES (if you want to call it that):
-No HR department; Rather, a single generalist that does not respond timely to anyone that is not on the executive team.
      - No on-boarding process for new hires that allow them to succeed early rather than having people figure it out themselves.
-HR is not clear nor competent on requirements to assist staff on vendor credentialing
-HR benefits are not properly set up or explained to new or existing staff
      - Per Diem rates that are below industry standard.
      - Requiring travelers to itemize actual meal expenses rather than just giving a flat rate causes travelers to use more time to compile expense reports, almost certainly causing a net-loss when factoring in the travelers’ hourly rate.

    DEVELOPMENT:
-Building upon a platform of legacy code built by naïve developers that was not scaled or well built. Rather than going back to line one (as is customary in "real" software companies after 10 major releases), we continue to “Frankenstein” additions over bad legacy code.
      - Development team that consistently turns over, in my view, due to poor leadership.
      - No developmental roadmap (Mentioned for the first time in DevOps 11Jun14 as a “maybe we should”).
      - Consistently underestimates time needed for completion of projects.
      - Lacks customer focus: blames customer perception for product flaws rather than taking ownership.
-The other comments on this site in regard to the Development team being run like a sweat shop are right on.

    PRODUCT:
      - Fail-overs are a manual process at most sites.
      - eMMA… Product is not clear- is that the jacket? The iPod version? The iPhone version? The stand-alone communications product?
-Communications Team: worked on this product for… years? No project plan for roll out, no thinking through failure plans, no accountability/supervision from executives. Instead, we continue to hire more managers for a product that does not compare well to industry competitors. The communications module is what everyone in the company is focusing on.....as of yet no hospital site has successfully implemented this. If this is the future of the company.... God help them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look in the mirror... the problems are not everybody else, they are you. The turnover rate alone at this company (especially for being so small) is laughable and embarrassing. The board of directors need to wake up and realize the CEO, and the so called Chief of Staff have failed..... time to go. OH, and don't submit postings to this site to attempt to combat the "actual" employees testimonials. (AKA the entry from Aug 1 2014 for example)
