Current Employee - Product Manager in San Jose, CA

I have been working at PayPal full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

1. Improving work/life balance (vs. 3 years ago)
2. Stable business overall
3. Great co-workers. Rank & file employees still want to do-the-right-thing
4. A few good managers. Getting fewer.

Cons

1. Constant re-orgs and change in big direction.
2. Very difficult to innovate new products/ideas. Planning process == big idea killer.
3. Sr. execs only keen on building fiefdom and forwarding personal agenda. Land grab mentality.
4. Loooong promotion process.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to rank-and-file employee to get a accurate read of the company and customer sat. Less PPT and more F2F with employee.

Current Employee - Software Development Manager in Scottsdale, AZ

I have been working at PayPal full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

There are many exceptional people who work at PayPal with lots of ideas.
Lots of different areas to grow and make your mark or make a difference
    The top internet payments company
Lots of other companies under eBay Inc. to work with or be part of

    Cons

Some leaders are way to political and only interested in self-gain. If you get into one of their teams, it can be rough.
    Constant org changes
Too many processes and tools--not enough strategy.
Secondary challenges in doing software development, (dev environments, builds/deploys, etc) that make work not efficient.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Exec/VP level is on the right track, but director level needs work.
Keep your focus on people and enabling/developing their talent.
    Trust each other
Spend the money to really fix the software dev cycle and environment. A multi-billion dollar company shouldn't have these kinds fo problems.
