No opinion of CEO

I have been working at PayPal full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Good benefits, stock has been good performer so ESPP/RSU is valuable. Flexible schedule. Can work from home when needed.

Cons

Management only focused on favorites. Easy to get overlooked. Meeting-happy culture wastes lots of time. Internal transfers seem to be discouraged. Heavy process around almost any activity. No effort to develop team spirit or culture. Most managers and employees' main focus is making sure they come out looking good, even at the expense of others.

Advice to Management

Learn how to recognize, encourage and reward talent and contributions that don't emanate from sycophants.

  1. A company given an incredible headstart, but running blind lead by non-innovators

    Pros

Decent pay is about the only good thing.

    Cons

The company has extremely poor leadership. They have no idea how to structure the organization. There's re-orgs every 6 months, effectively crippling productivity and ruining promotion cycles as everyone has new management they report to. Development is dead slow. Releases are on a MONTHLY release cycle. Dev teams are mainly offshore, QA teams never do a thorough job, there's no way to rollback changes so whenever a bug is found it takes weeks to solve and then a month before a fix is deployed. Pet projects that are complete duds that not only are not innovative, they lose money, offer poor user experience, all the while taking resources away from critical projects that support the company's bottom line. Then there's this concept of "moratorium" during November and December because PayPal lacks the technical infrastructure to fix any problems so they just shutdown all development during the holidays. Promotions also result in very small pay bumps. There's also no form of open dialog with management. All hands meetings are a staged production akin to a sitcom with even fake applauses! Growth has slowed down for the past few years and yet none of the executives do anything to drive initiatives that inspire change that creates innovation. You walk around office floors and you can see how DEAD the culture feels. No one is eager to go to work.

    Advice to Management

All of you quit and let real innovators and thought leaders take charge of PayPal or bring back the original PayPal mafia team.

    Pros

Good pay for industry. Fun people to work with

    Cons

Far more work than staffing levels can handle. Sr Management won't increase staffing. Laid off seasoned employees.
