    I worked at Payless ShoeSource full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    You get a 30% discount on the shoes.

    Cons

    You are not paid enough. You are expected to do outrageous amounts of paperwork and selling. You keeping your job will depend on how much you suggestive sell to people. You are rated on conversion...basically if the majority of people that come in don't buy things it is your fault. This alone would not be so bad but you are expected to do this while doing huge shipments and or price changes. Usually you will be by yourself to do this. They do not give enough payroll for two people to be working. Wal-mart is a better place ot work than this place.

    Stop focusing on bleeding your customers dry and listen to how unsatisfied your employees are

    I worked at Payless ShoeSource

    Pros

    Teaches sales, register usage, very strong customer service values.

    Cons

    The goals can be a little bit unfair, and a particular statistic you're responsible for called Conversion, which is how many people choose to buy versus how many people come in the store is not accurate as children play by the door censors, and the same people come in and out, large families will come in with each one counting and only buy 1 pair of shoes, and elderly folks often just hover in the doorway counting for 4 or 5 people. Result: Instead of 5 people coming in and you making 3 succesful sales for 5 customers, it would appear you're a complete sales idiot for ignoring 50 people and only selling to 5 of them.

    Get rid of conversion. Its unfair, and part of the reason there is such a high turnover rate for EVERY payless.
