Pros

Volunteers are GREAT people to have known

Cons

My program was disorganized: there were too many people sent and not enough for everyone to do. Many people ended up teaching english instead of what they were assigned to do. I was treated terribly after a medical emergency sent me back to the USA. I tried to re-apply again but was laughed at as they 'pitied' what had happened previously.

    Pros

You really get to understand another culture on a deep level, something you will probably not get anywhere else. Good benefits while in service. Most colleagues are high quality people who really want to make a difference.

    Cons

Ineffective as an organization, both within Peace Corps and with host country organizations. at times you don't feel like you're accomplishing anything. Also the organization is slow to change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep better track of trends in countries. Things have been changing really quickly in recent years, and not enough time has been spent working with new organizations and businesses that have become important recently. It would be good to dedicate more time to research.

    Pros

    Rewarding, life-changing, and inspiring
The Peace Corps gives you a chance not only to give back and help those less fortunate, but to find yourself and gain valuable skills in the process.

    Cons

Difficult lifestyle, homesickness, doubt as to whether you're really making a lasting impact

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The process to get in is so long! Work on reducing the time it takes to get in.
