Former Employee - Training Facilitator of Volunteers in Kingston (Jamaica)

I worked at Peace Corps as a contractor (more than 3 years)

Pros

Its one of the toughest jobs that i came to love , not necessarily because of staff but because of how rewarding it was - in terms of the potential long term impact of volunteers trained .A company that makes impact in the lives of others , and not just about revenue. Provides training for staff.

Cons

Very lengthy application and interview process / experience. Unrealistic timelines set for staff . During preservice training, Trainers required to live in under developed communities with volunteers without adequate support or additional compensation.

I have been working at Peace Corps full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

This review is referring to the volunteer portion of the Peace Corps. It's a great experience for those young and old. The experience will vary greatly depending on where you are posted in the world. But, regardless of where you are, you will learn a ton, try a plethora of new things, and form the strongest of relationships.

    Cons

There is little to no say in where one is posted. It's based on what's available and your background. As I stated previously, your experience will differ greatly based on your posting.

I worked at Peace Corps as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

It's the type of job for someone that wants to take charge. While in Peace Corps you can be in charge of project management and design, grant writing, and whatever else, all in an effort to help the community you are placed in. You'll learn a new language and be a part of a different culture and community.

    Cons

Staff not focused on the volunteers as much as sticking to policy. There are not many resources for volunteers upon close of service.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Assist volunteers with the transition back to the states. Have better resources and make them better equipped for a competitive job environment.
