I worked at Peace Corps part-time (more than an year)

Pros

-GREAT language training (learn a new language in ~3 months!)
-Allows you try out and gain experience in pretty much anything your interested in
-Network with like-minded volunteers
-Incredible eye-opening experiences
-Two years is enough experience to put on applications for the career you want, or apply for a competitive graduate school

Cons

-It can be difficult integrating into new cultures
-You will be tested in about every aspect of your life
-Lack of monitoring and evaluation training = low sustainablility

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sometimes I would go for MONTHS without more than a text or 10 second conversation with Peace Corps Staff. Sometimes it felt as if they had virtually no idea what I was doing at site (although some volunteers may appreciate this)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

PC HQ is currently undergoing a major transition, known internally as Focus In/Train Up strategy, which is working hard to professionalize the PC experience and reputation worldwide. Amazing agency to work with, in both the field as a volunteer or a federal employee.
