I have been working at Peace Corps full-time (more than a year)

-relative autonomy to choose projects that are of interest to the volunteer
-excellent volunteer community
-freedom to network outside of the Peace Corps community

-working for a large bureaucracy is never simple, and effective communication between American and host country staff is sometimes tricky; the staff means well, but it is sometimes difficult for them to relate to volunteers working in a rural setting.
-poor site development has meant that some volunteers do not enter communities with real jobs already in place; this is problematic as the community oftentimes doesn't have a solid understanding of what Peace Corps does or the ways on which they might be able to effectively use a volunteer
