I worked at Pearson full-time for more than 8 years

Pros

Pearson Education used to be a fantastic workplace. The culture and drive, the communication and dedication to mission were extraordinary.

Cons

Recent Senior Management changes have created a culture of fear and anxiety. This fear inhibits creativity, inhibits accountability, inhibits collaboration, and it was getting progressively worse when I resigned in June, 2013.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Incent your employees by paying them fairly and by providing career development.

Not very streamlined. Ripe for some downsizing which I think is going on right now.

I worked at Pearson full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Good benefits. Flexible work hours.

    Cons

You can't get anywhere in the company unless you spend 2 years as an outside sales rep. Very narrow minded in that sense. They lose a lot of good people. There's some great sales people there but there's also a lot of dopes that get promotions because they go golfing with the boss.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start looking at more than just sales experience.

I have been working at Pearson full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

This was a dynamic part of the Pearson organization, and leadership was solid. People who worked here are awesome - knowledgable, passionate, driven to do the right thing for the students and teachers.

    Cons

Business Unit was disbanded at the end of 2012. PDL has been swallowed by the larger corporate entity, and the senior leaders were let go, rather cold-blooded and harshly. The products are now floundering in direction and "fitting in" with the larger Pearson portfolio.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out mobile quick...or get left behind.
