I have been working at Pentagon Federal Credit Union

    Pros

-Decent time off, being rewarded with time off for good stats
-Generally flexible management for scheduling conflicts
-Excellent experience with a variety of financial tasks

    Cons

The customers you provide service to are some of the most vicious and entitled individuals I've ever encountered after 10 years working in the customer service field. Training is comprehensive, but not practical and supervisors who are there to "assist" you can't always be trusted to provide accurate information and have generally been promoted for seniority, not for their critical thinking abilities. Large corporate culture of "No" and focus is generally providing a customer with a quick answer that may not be helpful to get them off of the phone asap as opposed to listening and trying to problem solve. In general, I come to work thinking I can't lose any more faith in humanity, and then somehow manage to sink even lower.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a way to combine working the phone with other, more interesting work--being literally tied to a desk taking 100+ calls in a day is exhausting, difficult, and destroys morale. Turnover rate is high because there is little incentive to succeed at the job or stick around when you're treated like another cog in a machine. Having 10+ supervisors, none of which can reach a consensus when answering questions, leads to angry employees and even angrier customers.

I worked at Pentagon Federal Credit Union

    Pros

The company takes you through extensive training to get you up to speed on your job. The hours are excellent for college students looking to work part-time and the benefits are also good for part-timers.

    Cons

It's a bit more difficult to move up or laterally within the company since there are only a few locations worldwide.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep this job available for college students. Try and make it a bit more enticing for them to stick around after graduation (i.e. job creation, retention options).
