I have been working at Pentaho

Pros

Pentaho promotes a culture of success led by a new CEO that came up through sales himself earlier in his career. The product is excellent, the customers are happy and the price is right. The sales teams are staffed with aggressive and successful reps who have helped create a fun atmosphere. The EVP of Worldwide Sales takes a vested interested in growing, training and improving the entire salesforce. The comp plans are very achievable and there is a lot of success.

Cons

Pentaho is completely different company than it was even a year ago. However, this perception takes time to change. You will have to educate some prospects that may not be aware of how far Pentaho has come.

The company is growing fast which means there is a lot of work and not always a lot of people. Everyone wears a lot of hats, but that is the life of any start-up.

Great environment but you don't want to work for a sinking ship

I have been working at Pentaho

    Pros

Flexible schedule and fun office environment. They allow employees to drink beer on the job. I am not sure if that is a pro or a con. Benefits are 100% paid for employees and family members.

    Cons

Unfortunately this company cannot stick to a business plan. Upper level management has high turn over ("leaving to spend more time with their family members") and they hire their friends instead of qualified candidates. Also, I have been with this company for over 4 years without a raise or review. Whatever you do, don't ask for a raise because this firm will deny you that right. Pentaho expects employees to work long hours (whether from home or office) but they wont promote, give positive feedback, offer training, or offer you a raise; unless of course you are a friend of the CEO, CFO, or VP of Sales. If you are a friend of theirs, then you have a chance. Also, every person employed by Pentaho seems to wear a VP hat and is a male. In the last 2 years, I noticed that the founders are either in over their head or bored with the company so they hired new people to take over and make all the original Pentaho employees miserable. If you do decide to work for this firm, I would recommend leaving after the first two years because there is no room for growth unless you are friends with the executive team.
