Communication Challenged

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Pental Granite & Marble

ProsThis company is a good entry level place for new interior designers, students, forklift drivers, or customer service people. There is not much room for advancement so pass on your resume to customers that come in. The products are nice if you like tile and slab. Sometimes employees are allowed leftover food from an event the night before. As long as you follow procedure, time-off is approved. Overtime is required on Saturday for many. The company continues growing in a slow economy. The president cares about the company, even if others may not.

ConsLow compensation in the field for most job positions. New job postings list a higher starting wage than the wage many current employees make (expect low raises once a year if lucky). Job postings until very recently were secret to the inner company employees. Recently they have been posted in the lunch room. Many departments do not have a work space (desk area or table) for each employee. A few "cubicals" are composed of boxes in the storage room. There is new unoccuppied office space whose plans do not consider expanding more crowded departments. If you are new to the warehouse crew your job is sweeping and toilet cleanup. No janitors for that service. There is a high turnover rate.

Advice to Senior ManagementHave less "closed door" meetings. Let everyone know what is going on. Every week employees are surprized by new events or products causing everyone to drop everything when certain people had known for months. If these events were known arrangements could be made ahead of time. Also pay your employees a similiar wage to your competition to decrease the high turnover rate. Why else do they leave for places down the street?

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

A word for those who purchase from Pental

Pros: The company takes in mostly entry level employees so that they may take advantage of paying them at a lower wage. On one hand this… Cons: Communication at Pental is completely non-existent. Over the many years that I worked there it was the biggest issue that was never EVER solved. Everyone… Advice to Senior Management: Have a heart. Try to remember what it was like to work for a company that listened and cared about their employee. Cut the loose… No, I would not recommend this company to a friend More
