Pros

- fascinating industry - creative atmosphere - the best co-workers anywhere - casual office environment

Cons

- totally clueless management; revolving door C-level - layoffs so frequent and without warning, staff works in a constant state of paranoia - hefty bonuses at the top, while benefits costs go up for line employees - management levels WAY too top-heavy; positions not appointed on merit or knowledge - skeleton crew at the staff level, but the amount of work only increases

Advice to Management

Immediately ditch the approach that the best way to increase the bottom line is to keep decreasing headcount. Staff are over-worked and very much unappreciated. Realize, and ACKNOWLEDGE, that the staff have kept the company afloat for the last decade and more, through all the bad times. The company could flourish without all the VPs, but would go under in a week without the line employees.

    I worked at Penton full-time

    Pros

    Talented people and friendly colleagues.

    Cons

Low pay, sexist senior management, lack of communication from senior management and lack of feedback on performance. I can't stress how the combination of poor senior management with lack of communication in the company provided such an awful work atmosphere. There are no training/educational programs to get new employees started and you feel like you're in a sinking ship.

    Advice to Management

COMMUNICATE! I've never worked for a company with so much politics and little communication. Sr. Management needs to step it up or they will lose the talent which is the only reason the company is still surviving.

    Pros

    Flex Hours, coffee, family friendly

    Cons

Complacency due to job insecurity, Senior management rarely changes while those below are constantly being let go. Somber atmosphere in the New York Office and too much partying in the OP office.

    Advice to Management

Senior management need to start looking within themselves for the problem
