I have been working at Penton full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Strong executive leadership who are working hard to improve communication and structure
Very clear corporate strategy
Have emerged in strong financial position
Some impressive, passionate workers with deep ties to their industries and/or job function
Opportunities for tech and quant experts seeking family-friendly corporate culture

Cons

Still some sorting and structuring to work out, particularly with marketing functions
Devil in details, still need to see commitment to staffing the "doer" level not just leadership and strategic hires

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Structure, define and communicate roles and responsibilities clealy. Make clear where working smarter is required, but staff up in operational functions that have been stretched pretty thin.

I worked at Penton full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good work-life balance and friendly office.

    Cons

Lack of leadership and unwillingness to change. No real way to grow professionally, and very little care to provide employees with proper career prospects or training. Bit of a boys club at the top. Not willing to listen to employees lower down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the whole management team at New Hope. Get in people who have drive and EXPERIENCE. You cannot have a team made up (on the whole) of people who have never worked in a proper corporate environment.

Penton values its employees as they're the company’s #1 asset. Without our employees, there would not be any products or revenues generated.

I worked at Penton full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    - They make you feel like you're the best employee in the world when they hire you
    - HR are very clever people. They encourage "good people" to write nice comments about the company online

    Cons

    - You do 2-3 people jobs because so many had left before they hired you. So, basically you'll have to be the b*tch
    - Self-important, bossy and thoughtless management aka the Sorority (directors, market leaders, VPs). If you make it to the club, you belong at Penton
    - Management treat employees like morons although they have NO idea what's going on in the tech world, social media,... to improve the business
    - Your co-workers are overworked, unmotivated, boring and only working to work because they have to pay the bills (all the smart people already left)
    - HR is extremely unprofessional. They even promote politics in the office and only hang out with the "right people"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just get sold to another Media company who can manage your assets better. Wasserstein (the parent company) should just sell you off and invest in something else. Except for 2-3 pubs, most of Penton's online properties are a bunch of worthless URLs.
