I have been working at Pepco Holdings

Pros

Easy to shine amid the dead wood. Secure positions in the regulated company. Takes a lot to be fired. Comfortable. Generally good people just plodding along in their jobs. Some really good people carrying 80% of the workload. Provides lots of different topics of work if self-motivated.

Cons

Lots of dead wood. Lack of resources to do job, piling on the work with no recognition. Lots of "inside" promotions and advancements - fair policy in place that allows lots of gaming. Still too much typical old-school utility mentality.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up and hold employees accountable like your values say. Stop the insider hiring and networking that limits finding talent already in-house. Value inside talent more than outside consulting.

I worked at Pepco Holdings full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - tons of learning opportunities
    - extremely nice coworkers
    - great work/life balance

    Cons

    - promotion is typically based on tenure, not skill
    - likewise high achievers are not given enough rewards, eg, 3.3% raise for excellent rating vs 3.0% for average rating
    - not very good rotation program

I worked at Pepco Holdings as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

I worked this role as a contractor and I can say that I had a great project team; the business valued excellent communication. Good salary and work/life balance.

    Cons

The project I worked was on an aggressive schedule managed by an outside partner who squeezed resources to complete work not accounted for in the original project plans. I would call that Scope Creep but the project teams (Not Pepco) never moved milestones but asked employees to simply work harder.
