I have been working at Pepco Holdings

Pros

The company is very culturally diverse. There is relatively high job security. Depending on which department your work with they are very flexible when it comes to balancing work-life issues. Work location in Washington DC is great with access to many many great things to do at lunch!

Cons

The company is a very old company, so there are certain aspects of the group mentality that reflect this. It's not a cutting edge, progressive thinking company when it comes to new technologies and ideas. The benefits package could be a little better when it comes to vacation time and sick time.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The best way to compete for new employees is to improve the softer aspects of the benefits package : more vacations time, more sick time, more opportunity to work remotely.

    Pros

Stability, good benefits - generally flexible with work schedules.

    Cons

Lack of career development opps, limited advancement, week pay comparable to similar roles in other companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rething your hiring and promotions practices. The company is preaching "change" but continue to hold onto the "old gaurd".

    Pros

Excellent Benefits (pension, unlimited tuition upto 90%, 401k, medical, dental, vision, good for minorities, job security and stability in a regulated, non-competitive business environment, reasonably stress-free (for white collar workers at least). HQ in Washington DC close to metro station makes commute easy. There are several other locations though, that were brought into the fold after the merger with Conectiv Energy - near Wilmington, DE and Pennsylvania. Revenue stream is predictable and because of the regulated business environment, protected from the the vagaries of the market and unpredictability. Career opportunities may open up as a large percentage of employees is scheduled to retire in the coming years.

    Cons

Ho-hum growth opportunities, stagnation, limited exposure and value of experience

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Involve the rank and file more in tactical and strategic decisions and give them more exposure and cross-training

    No opinion of CEO
