I have been working at PepsiCo full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Great Brands & Legendary Legacy

Very resource rich & data intensive

Good HQ locations (Chicago, New York, Dallas)

Progressive in some areas such as sustainability

Cons

Highly political, promotion happen from managers playing favorites vs promoting competence

Constant reorganizations and layoffs, which spreads remaining employees too thin while workload demands stay the same

Unachievable and unrealistic demands from Management; very public floggings of the little people that fail to measure up. This has resulted in a mass exodus of very seasoned and talented employees over the last 3-4 years, particularly women in senior roles.

Benefits such as profit sharing, 401K match, health care benefits, etc. continue to be stripped from the work force.

Too much focus on Finance instead of Marketing

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The current culture is where the "yes" men get ahead at the expense of employees who actually know what they are doing will continue to erode these businesses that are quickly losing relevance to consumers.

The old Pepsi/Frito marketing formulas for success don't work anymore in the marketplace. Listen to the people who have good ideas that may differ from Mgt's point of view instead of forcing them out.

I worked at PepsiCo full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Good job right out of college. You build a strong work ethic because FLNA managers are known for long hours and solid performance.
    - Lead teams after your training
    - Starting salary is decent (only starting salary)
    - Part of Pepsi, so you have several divisions to work in (FLNA, Quaker, Tropiciana, Gatorade, Pepsi, PBG)

    Cons

    - Horrible salary increases. They get you with the starting pay, but after that you can look forward to 1% to 2.5%. 1% if you have mediocre results, 2.5% if you're performing well.
    - Job security. Two waves of layoffs the past 3 years.
    - Several cuts to 401k match for salaried employees, no more share power, etc. Pepsi will be following this path as prices are increasing on its products and it has to start cutting costs.
    - Your direct managers do NOT care about your progression. Don't be fooled. They schedule 1:1's with you, but fail to meet 90% of the time. You meet more with your hourly employees than your boss. Of course they will meet with you all the time to assign you their tasks to perform, but if it comes to your career, it's put to the side
    - Direct managers expect you to get their assigned tasks done the day of telling you about it. No patience. If you don't get it done the current day, expect feedback.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Poor planning on your end doesn't constitute an emergency on my end. So many times I've been asked to complete a task only with the preface that it MUST be done by COB. Give us more notice, breathe in, and relax. You're just making chips.
