I have been working at PepsiCo full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

There are lots of opportunities to learn and grow - training resources and shadowing opportunities are plentiful. The people generally are the the best part of this company. Most of the teams that have been around for a while are composed of proven high performers. The workplace is very diverse and it nurtures a very innovative culture.

Cons

You will work a lot of hours with little to no financial incentive. No bonuses, performance scaling is at most 3% better than the "standard" increase which was just lowered to 2%. 401k contribution matching is on the lower end. An effort to implement any real work life balance is met with hostility and passive aggressive conduct. You work hard to keep partners happy and get a pat on the back.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

What could be a great experience is only "OK" since the stress/workload is is high enough to mostly negate the positive experiences. My teams hours are planned for every day at 100% of our 45-50 hour week with no room for production support issues. As a result when anything unexpected happens projects are impacted and extra hours become "required" - which is on a regular basis.

In speaking with co-workers the general consensus seems to be that PepsiCo is a great place to build your career for the company you want to work for afterwards.

While a decade ago it was a pleasant place to work, now nothing more than a short-stay to add to your resume.

I worked at PepsiCo full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

-The product that you sell and represent is a great brand. Pepsi has hands down the largest category of brand offerings, which makes them a powerful player in the mass grocery and C&G markets.
-The technology that Pepsi has developed and utilizes for selling are great instruments and contribute to the success of the sales team.
-The company does a good job of creating a brand image

    Cons

-Your home life suffers, particularly for low to mid-level managers. Since most of the business is done Thursday through Sunday, that is when you are most active. When the holidays come around, forget family dinners or grilling out on the 4th as you will be in 'the trade' filling shelves and building displays.
-Opportunity for advancement is very limited. When upper positions within the local facility do come open, they are usually filled by someone hired directly into the position off of the street. Education and connections are valued more than previous experience with the company.
-Pay and compensation is deplorable. When considering the hours you commit to the job, the responsibility and the personal sacrifices made, it makes it even worse. However, this is not epidemic to Pepsi, as all of the major beverage companies pay about the same. Vehicle reimbursement, for use of your personal vehicle, is not even close to making up for the cost of gas, wear and tear, and maintenance. While you can deduct the balance each year on your taxes, it doesn't really matter each week when your filling your tank up three and four times.
