A surprising amount of great things neutralized by a surprising amount of not so great things.

Pros

There are lots of opportunities to learn and grow - training resources and shadowing opportunities are plentiful. The people generally are the the best part of this company. Most of the teams that have been around for a while are composed of proven high performers. The workplace is very diverse and it nurtures a very innovative culture.

Cons

You will work a lot of hours with little to no financial incentive. No bonuses, performance scaling is at most 3% better than the "standard" increase which was just lowered to 2%. 401k contribution matching is on the lower end. An effort to implement any real work life balance is met with hostility and passive aggressive conduct. You work hard to keep partners happy and get a pat on the back.

Advice to Management

What could be a great experience is only "OK" since the stress/workload is is high enough to mostly negate the positive experiences. My teams hours are planned for every day at 100% of our 45-50 hour week with no room for production support issues. As a result when anything unexpected happens projects are impacted and extra hours become "required" - which is on a regular basis.

In speaking with co-workers the general consensus seems to be that PepsiCo is a great place to build your career for the company you want to work for afterwards.

I have been working at PepsiCo part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Definitely the money. I can tell you the only reason anyone would want to be a soda merchandiser is for the pay because there quite frankly is no other reason. The hourly pay is very reasonable. It's much higher than the average pay for retail. Also for people who like a lot of hours, there is plenty.

    Cons

The job is very stressful. You would think as a merchandiser, you work by yourself which means you don't have a lot of crap to deal with. Wrong. Some work schedules will be absolute nightmares where you'll be expected to go to six to eight stores in one day with many loads you need to work and then be expected to finish in 8-10 hours. You'll be treated terribly by many grocery managers that will constantly complain about you if you can't get there on time (because you already have such a long day as it is) or if you aren't perfect. Be prepared for a lot of criticism.

The company went though a big change and you know what that always means, to save money by making jobs more difficult for everyone else. The 2pflex schedule means twice the amount of work for the merchandisers.

    Advice to Management

The new 2pflex schedule has hit a lot of people hard. They should have better prepared the employees for it. Also train your new employees better, the 2pflex means new people will need twice the amount of training than before.

  2. The work is there! And I have never been laid off!

    Pros

It is sales and commission based.

    Cons

Very, very challenging if you are a single parent. The hours are long, but doable.

    Advice to Management

    Effective communication and help
