I worked at Perkins Coie full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Not much is expected. As long as you're physically there, you'll contintue to receive a paycheck. It feels like being on the set of Mad Men wihtout the good looking people - Good Ol' Boys mentalitiy is still alive and well here.

Cons

Because they end up in Fortunes every year, the general public is given the perception that it's an ideal place to work. By the way, the staff isn't sure how Perkins ends up as a best place to work year after year. A survey is supposed to be circulated through, including staff, however, none of the staff have ever seen a survey. Who is filling the surveys out - what a great questions. Because of their best place to work status, they pay very low wages - it's pretty appauling, really. You pratcially have to drain your blood to get market value.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's pointless.

    Pros

Fellow associates are terrific lawyers and engaging, supportive people. The firm pays 100% of our health insurance premiums.

    Cons

Some practice areas remain boys clubs, and women often have a much harder time integrating into their groups. Performance feedback is poor. Hours and workload are unpredictable.

I have been working at Perkins Coie full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Fairly safe, unchallenging environment; attempts at team building-mostly through food.

    Cons

Management is similar to high school, very little joy in performing well, lots of management from the home office, PTO is below average with accommodation focused on child-based time off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Anyone who has been in the business for a substantial period of time likes what they do and does not need prodding to do a good job - management needs to recognize the accomplishments and professionalism of employees other than attorneys. Lots of lip service but little follow-through.
