I have been working at Pershing

Pros

Pershing is a great place to work, since it's a susidiary of BNYM there are opportunities within Pershing, and the parent company to really advance one's career
work environment is one of the best out there. They care about life work balance. They invest in technology as far as video conferencing, presentations.

Cons

information sharing does not happen as often as you would like it's who you know
Hard to find out which department handles what, a lot of passing off of responsibility.
Their internal technical support is very poor. There is no follow up from the tech support department on issues. They have a lot of programs on their network that don't talk to each other sometimes associates systems crash daily.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please make promotions and bonus calculations more transparent, it seems like a mystery to most associates. Keep up the great communication via webcast and onsite meetings.

    I worked at Pershing

    Pros

friendly staff - depends on department
flex vacation - if you really need it

    Cons

No work/life balance - in early and out late everyday
Working from home abused by employees (the people who really need it cannot get approval to)
Poor managers (dont make time for employees, only care about themselves, dont take responsibility for faults, play favorites among direct reports)
Way too political for my taste (screaming, cursing, slient treatment)
Stingy compensation (but if your part of the executive committee, your pockets always stay full)
    HR is a joke
Promotion process is a complete joke (people who had no business being promoted were promoted)
Backstabbing is at an all time high right now (people are afraid of losing their jobs so they do anything to keep it)
Lack of innovation or vision from senior leaders (they have been there for ages and have not had exposure to other methods and ideas of keeping things fresh and new)
First time manager receive zero training and are expected to be "good managers"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please invest the time and care and listen (really listen) to your employees. They are telling you over and over they are unhappy, underpaid, and over worked. They are the people doing to work to keep the company together.

I have been working at Pershing

    Pros

    Decent Benefits
You can dump all your work on others if you know the right people
You can sleepwalk through your day
Easy to blame others when you fail and have it stick on them

    Cons

Senior management does nothing but cut costs
    Operations all outsourcing to India
    Best practices are cheapest practices
Technology will say "no" to everything

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you really are serious about cutting expenses, how about focusing on the highest-paid senior management overlap? 3 presidents...do we really need that many to play a round of golf?
