I have been working at Pershing

Pros

- If you want to work for a finance company but don't want to commute to NYC.
- If your good at playing politics, tooting your own horn and rubbing elbows then you may get far.
- Multiple work locations.
- Mostly 9 to 5.
- Business casual environment.

Cons

- Too much beaurocracy. Everthing seems to be like pulling teeth.
- Quality of work not as important as visibility.
- It's not clear how to advance within the firm.
- Most people look out for themselves. Lack of teamwork.
- The firm is set in their own ways particularly in technology. Management is clinging onto outdated proprietary technology.
- Health Benefits a bit pricey.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to improve in the area of providing a better environment that promotes performance excellence and teamwork. The mid to senior level managers run their teams like politicians. Doing what is best for the firm is always secondary.

I have been working at Pershing

    Pros

You have the capability to learn a lot at Pershing. I definitely recommend coming here to learn and then leave within 3 years, if possible.

    Cons

Too many cons....mainly the management team is atrocious. Also, you are not awarded on your work ethic....if you have the right "look" and kiss enough "butt"....only then you will go far.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My only advice to management is one word.....listen. It is ridiculous how you can talk with your manager and they dont even acknowledge your thoughts or ideas....or just plainly steals them from you and take all of the credit.

    I worked at Pershing

    Pros

Many nice people. Plenty of competent people at many levels. Stress levels generally low. The place runs as long as the platform is running. They do a lot around training. BNYM is slowly absorbing Pershing which is good but not comfortable for some old timers.

    Cons

I've been here 3 yrs. No apparent advancement opportunities and no room to go cause people never leave. Many who have been here a very long time cling to status quo. Lots of managers that are less than capable at managing. It's like an old club in the upper ranks. What they did 15 years ago doesn't nec. measure up to 2009 standards. Nobody wants to say this.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pershing is not a company any more. Its another division of BNYM - nothing more or less. Not the 'same old Pershing" of 20 years ago. Get the people and business closer to BNYM if you really want to be a 21st century organization. Recognize your blind spots, address the issues no one wants to talk about (customer svc problems, tech problems, performance mgmt problems, some bad managers). You can make this part of BNYM a stronger place for associates.
