Look before you leap

Assistant Vice President (Current Employee)

Pros- If you want to work for a finance company but don't want to commute to NYC.
- If your good at playing politics, tooting your own horn and rubbing elbows then you may get far.
- Multiple work locations.
- Mostly 9 to 5.
- Business casual environment.

Cons- Too much beaurocracy. Everthing seems to be like pulling teeth.
- Quality of work not as important as visibility.
- It's not clear how to advance within the firm.
- Most people look out for themselves. Lack of teamwork.
- The firm is set in their own ways particularly in technology. Management is clinging onto outdated proprietary technology.
- Health Benefits a bit pricey.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement needs to improve in the area of providing a better environment that promotes performance excellence and teamwork. The mid to senior level managers run their teams like politicians. Doing what is best for the firm is always secondary.
