Pros

Pervasive has a strong culture of nurturing those who are passionate about their careers. Employees that are interested in bettering themselves and developing as a professional in their field will feel at home amid a culture of constant improvement and personal growth. This makes the company an especially good opportunity for entry level employees, since their good habits are reinforced from day one by the company's experienced staff (senior employees are highly encouraged to serve as mentors); it also contributes to the promote from within mentality that is prevalent. The company has a "reap what you sew" mentality, so employees are allowed to enjoy the benefits of their effort. Management is upfront and clear in expectations and feedback is forthcoming and constructive. The general situation at the company is made all the better by the strong market demand for its products. In sum, Pervasive offers employees the opportunity and freedom to create their success and benefit from dedication and hard work - the accelerators are fantastic!

Cons

In many ways, Pervasive is a large start up. Such a culture has a lot of great things to offer but there are some annoying aspects as well. The persistent reliance on "Tribal Knowledge" is case in point. Although it is better than it used to be, the company still struggles to scale up its new employee training and dissemination of what works and what doesn't. As a result, new employees are somewhat forced to scavenge the old fashioned way for the most effective strategies. Finally, there are some practices that I don't quite fully understand. The company has a resistance to hiring remote employees which seems a bit out of place in 2012.

Advice to Management

Double down investment in your employee's professional development. Keep breaking down the silos between the various divisions; everyone will benefit from more cross-pollination. Keep investing in the high growth areas of your business.

    Pros

    1. Employees are great people, hard workers, and very team oriented. 2. Data Integration has widespread pain through multiple companies and companies are eager to use software platforms, like Pervasive, to solve real problems. 3. Fun environment, fun atmosphere 4. Great work/life balance, along with the potential to make high 6 figure compensation. 5. Minimal micro-management, entrepreneurial attitude, high professional growth.

    Cons

    1. As the business grows, or new products are developed, infrastructure needs to grow or respond to growth faster. 2. Job/Performance feedback needs to be more structured and more consistent. 3. More defined career growth or plans for career growth. There are a lot of opportunities internally for career growth, but no defined path.

    Pros

Co-workers are fabulous, good benefits and good working environment. Location was great but that's a personal preference

    Cons

Nepotism is all over the place, management brings their children (unsupervised) to the office for days on end to avoid daycare. Meetings are typically started late and without an agenda. Projects are run without communication to the team and plans/decisions are often not thought out fully, causing missed deadlines or unreasonable expectations on staff. Management is largely from abroad and has no concept of motivation. Some managers rely on intimidation as their primary means of motivation. Planning is pretty much a joke. Often times staff is asked to create elborate plans only to find out through the grapevine that the goals/feautres have been changed and the plans are moot. Staff are often harshly reviewed because of time spent on tasks that didn't benefit the final project but no communcation was offered to know goals had changed. A very difficult place to work and usually the only way to get ahead is to simply be on someone's good side.

    Advice to Management

Take you children to day care instead of the office. It's unfair to your children but also to your employees. You make more money in the company than anyway - YOU CAN AFFORD IT!!! Go back to school and get basic management and ethis traning as well as brushing up on your Engrish! Just because you have an MBA does not automatically make you a manager. TALK TO YOUR EMPLOYEES. Everyone there wants to succeed but it's impossible if plans and schedules are not communicated to staff on a regular basis. Think through you product features before you have your staff jump off a bridge. Much time is wasted doing things halfway.
