I worked at Pervasive Software full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

There are hard-working people there - good "starter" job

Cons

Lots of posturing within the organization; turn-over rates within Integration division are extremely high; company struggles with product releases for YEARS before they are able to secure a customer; company professes to be "innovative" but reality is Directors micro-manage employees and are threatened by new ideas - status quo rules. Company as a whole does not invest in employees or knowledge sharing. Leadership clutches on to information to retain power over others. This behavior creates a very caustic environment which is very visible, particularly in the integration group. Pay is below that of industry. Be sure to check out the stock PVSW price compared with others in the industry and analysis of the company.

Advice to Management

"Refresh" management and division heads and seek out positive management that supports their teams with knowledge sharing and true opportunities for advancement.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Fun place to work, great atmosphere. Make your own hours. Overnight travel only as needed. Great coworkers. Uncapped commission is nice

    Cons

Sales floor is a revolving door, have heard good and bad things about the product. Still in a startup mentality, strange for a 25 year company. Ramp up time is short, quick results expected.

    Advice to Management

More feedback and training would be nice from management. It's hard to turn up something from pretty much nothing while putting out fires from previous projects and getting no credit.

It's great if you want to coast

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Pervasive has a great community feel to it. Lunch parties 2-3 times a year, softball game every year, all sorts of fun events that go on nearly every quarter.

    Cons

Pervasive is a great place to work if all you want to do is coast through your life, not really inventing or working on anything interesting. If you want a paycheck, and put in your 8-10 hours a day then Pervasive is perfect. If you are ambitious in anyway, forget it. There is no drive to exceed at Pervasive.

    Advice to Management

Aim for exceeding and growing, not being content
