Pros

good compensation and health plans for you and your pet, bonus $$$ :)

Cons

say bye to your personal life, especially if you are a new hire. no weekends, no holidays, no time off from october to january. the way the company is moving now i feel like i am a salesperson and not a manager. Promotions can take more than a year :(

Advice to Management

Look for internal talent, some of us are being wasted just because we intimidate them by having more educational training, sad to say it but it is true

    Pros

The dogs, loved working with them.
Most coworkers were nice and helpful.
    Employee discount was nice.
Liked being able to wash my dog there for free.

    Cons

    Schedules change without notice.
Rude management, doesn't want to work with employees.
No cooling system in the pet salon.
    Old equipment.
Old, useless brushes and scissors for the bathers, groomer must pay for their own supplies.
Groomers have to pay for their own certification.
Lots of rules that were good for safety but lots of silly rules just in place to flex muscle of management.
Catty work enviorment with all the ladies in the salon.

    Advice to Management

Learn that employees mostly want to do a good job, there is no need to talk to people with disrespect just to prove a point to everyone else.

    Pros

Good benefits, working with animals and fellow animal-lovers. Get to help pets and their families.

    Cons

Extremely stressful; high burn-out rate -both physically, mentally and emotionally. Grooming is very labor-intensive and requires attention to detail, but the upper management constantly pushes for higher sales even if it burns out groomer. Like most retail, employees are considered basically disposable, especially in SC.

    Advice to Management

Trust your experienced groomers and managers. Spend a day in the grooming salon (especially Saturday) observing. It is one thing to multi-task, its another to be overwhelmed. And cut the store managers some slack.
