Current Employee - Lead Cashier in Las Vegas, NV

I have been working at PetSmart part-time (more than a year)

Pros

-Most of the employees are friendly
-Working with the animals is also a plus
-Discount is also nice to have when you have animals..

Cons

-Managers are lazy, they can be rude, not very personable, theres definatly favoritism in our store!
-Hours, almost everyone has less then 25, and still they continue to hire.. So if you want hours thats as much as you'll get..
-District manager is an a**hole..
-Theres also a lot of gossip at our store, so if you talk to a manager in private, don't be surprised if everyone knows the next day..

Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at PetSmart full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunities to shine. They were a small company just getting big when I was there. Growing pains made it easy to get ahead by working hard and taking charge.

    Cons

Upper management had a very entitled outlook and often looked down upon its support staff. Middle management's hands were often tied and the everyday worker generally felt the brunt of this situation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let your people do their jobs. Its why you hired them!

I worked at PetSmart part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Weekly checks, always work to do and days are not boring (unless your cashier all day) multiple raises within your first year but not anything amazing usually.

    Cons

No room for advancement, regional and district positions need fresh replacements as individuals let bad things slide if they like certain stores/managers. Training plan is hard to obtains and career ending if not met, no real "talent building" and company would rather hire lots of part timers than give full time hours to worthy people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward good employees and business will thrive or risk resentment and lackluster workers. Give promotions when deserved and fight for better raises for worthy associates over playing favorites. Have morale and store team building efforts to retain good employees. District and super veteran managers need to be replaced and/or mord around to create more upward associate movement.
