Sad place to work since they started moving everything possible offshore.

Pros

Bring your pets to work.

Cons

Executive Management used to care about pets then a new CFO, CIO, and VP’s were brought in, the focus shifted to the bottom line. Benefits were cut, raises cut, Business units like Customer Satisfaction, IT Operation and HR were outsources offshore. I large number of remaining jobs were moved to Texas where you could relocate yourself for a cut in pay.

In a word, it was depressing; the animals are sad and so are the people who work there.

    Pros

It's great when you are able to teach a customer how to better care for an animal or help them decide which kind of animal would suit their lifestyle best. Being around animals is also a plus.

    Cons

Most of the customers should not own pets; they don't care for their animals well and sometimes its obvious that the animal they want to buy is not really going to get the best care, or will be abandoned because the potential owner is buying on a whim. But Petco is a business which, despite what their motto claims, does not put their animals first.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't sell conures and parrots; the saddest thing about working there was seeing the conures whither away physically and emotionally with lack of proper care and attention for ages because no one wants to spend $600 on them (no animal with that price tag should be sold there). Make sure management stresses better care in general, and less focus on making money.
