I have been working at Petco part-time (more than an year)

Pros

Good people to work with. If you enjoy taking care of in-store animals and meeting animals brought in by the pet parents, you will love this job.

Cons

Under paid, and understaffed because of that. People don't usually stick around for low pay.

I have been working at Petco full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

20% employee discount. Cant think of anything else.

    Cons

Compensation for this position is a joke. So many stipulations to receive 60% commission and base hourly pay is only 8.00. Coupons come out of pay and you are expected to hand out these coupons. You must also answer phone calls and check in and out pets as well as the now 8pt check in witch includes asking what type of food the pet eats and trying to sell them a brand they we carry to help store sales. No type of bonuses they use scare tactics to get you to make sales goals etc. A very hard place to work and stay positive. No overtime pay and if a client gets a refund you don't get paid unless you harass management... even if it was a store related problem that lead to the refund. Vacation pay is also 8.00$ hr, witch is much less than if you where actually working, forget vacation. They push for groomers to work evenings with no evening business so groomers basically stay and work for nothing, commissions are based on 40 hr week. so you get either commissions or hourly pay for the week, witch ever is greater. Pay is every two weeks and is one week behind.... so tracking commissions and pay is very hard. Help is spread very thin around the salon to keep payroll in check and you are always stuck with huge pets to lift alone.

I have been working at Petco

    Pros

Decent wages, great pto, rewarding work, relationships with clients

    Cons

Groomers are overworked, understaffed, and unappreciated

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to raise profits and maintain quality, then you have to hire more employees. One groomer can only groom so many dogs. Also, a groomer who feels appreciated will do better work.
