I worked at Petrofac Facilities Management full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Petrofac really looks after their people with a lot of interesting team building event, family event and annual ball. It is a fast growing company with a lot of prospect all around the world including studentscholarship sheme.

Cons

Like all big companies you feel a bit like a number more than a person, however each line manager really listens and take interest in each department and its people.

I worked at Petrofac Facilities Management as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Good rates, pleasant working environment, good team.
Recent appointment of a competent Quality Manager in the Aberdeen office.

    Cons

Promotion of Quality, HSE and DCC (staff) employees, without adequate competencies, to senior positions has contributed to inefficient working practices and lack of standardisation, putting the company at risk in some instances. The lack of control has allowed different departments to procure different (and expensive) systems so personnel transfer across departments and projects is inefficient, with little similarities between them.
There appears to be a silo mentality, which has encouraged the building of 'kingdoms' at the most senior levels.
My experience showed negligible training, except for the business software applications, which are not the easiest to deal with, and differ across the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to recognise that disciplines such as DCC and Quality DO create revenue as not only does a client expect delivery of what you say you do, as in the contract, but expects it in the MANNER in which you say it will be done - as in ISO certification, your policies and an effective QMS. Don't forget that ISO 9001 has been honed over decades to provide an effective and viable business designed for the long term. It requires maintenance and investment, including in training, as this will improve motivation and contribute to improved working practices and efficiencies.
Give your (competent) Quality Manager authority and resources to do his job as one of his most powerful drivers is IMPROVEMENT!
And get yourself some decent Quality training if you don't believe me!
    Get the training anyway...
