I have been working at Pfizer full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

Training ground for entry level associates

Cons

Culture is still horrible and middle management still has that 'fear' mentality instilled. Ian Read tries to change the culture but reaching middle management has to be the key with employee facing initiatives to instill a more innovative core. It is still VERY VERY hierarchical..

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grow your people and do not fear career growth from them because you are afraid they will take your jobs away from you. Be more flexible with people and you will get the best from them. Reward your people instead of constantly criticizing them. No one is perfect including you.

I worked at Pfizer full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Innovation is highly encouraged in some functional areas. Casual atmosphere was conducive to openness and encouraged feedback.

    Cons

Limited career/promotion options due to site reductions as a result of role change within the network. Not all senior management was open to process changes and accountability was not uniform across rganizations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great job with transparency and openness for organizational changes due to site reductions. Continue on this track!!

I learned a lot on how to navigate through corporate America (especially what not to do at my next job!)

I worked at Pfizer full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The benefits were very good. The pension, 401K matching, and healthcare. Compared with many other companies that I have seen, Pfizer has offered some of the better benefits.

    Cons

The people made it a miserable experience. It was hard to work in such a negative environment. Company politics made it very hard to make any career progress. It was not a question of what amount of work you actually did, but who you could cozy up to. Burn out rate was very high. Senior management truly accessible to only a few.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look more towards a healthier work like balance. The workplace paradigm has shifted. Take a page from new start ups and incorporate some of their focus on the worker as a highly valuable resource.
