    I have been working at Phase One Consulting Group

    Pros

    The salaries are decent though you will be made to work for every penny and then some, but really this is probably the only reason to work here.

    Cons

    There are few options for advancement. There is no company educational support for advancement, no real sustained training effort. In fact, their last director of this initiative quit from being overworked and micromanagement from the partners.

    Business development is led by people who are supposed to be doing client work. They say you are supposed to focus primarily on client work even though they often write proposals on client time. What does that mean? Many late nights doing client work.

    It is not a family friendly company to say the least. There is no paid maternity or paternity leave. When wanting to start families, people tend to just quit.

    The only people who really get bonuses are directors. Other than that you pretty much just get the standard 4% raise. The raises are delayed because of slow HR leadership wasting their time on a pointless 360 degree review process.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Develop some actual vision for the company's future and don't just pursue every vaguely applicable contract just to expand the company until you've developed a vision. Your employees are people, treat them that way without seeing them as dollar signs. Happy hours will only get you so far in building morale, it will take real sustained change.

    Pros

    The company's business is pretty strong. It has some stable long-term contracts that comprise the core of its business and those clients are happy with its work. However, it has very little strategic growth strategy and often pursues business that the company has little to no expertise in.

    Cons

    Very little strategic vision behind the business that the company pursues - often these pursuits are mismatched with the company's expertise. This leads to rapid hiring each time the company gets new business - meaning that if the company looses that business, it will have to make layoffs. The company has no growth strategy and yet is hiring at tremendous rates. It's a recipe for disaster. The partners don't care as long as they are able to buy new cars and build big houses.

    Employee bonuses and raises are meager. If you have a decent skill set and push for your salary hard enough, you'll likely get it - but they will make you fight for every dollar of an increase once you're in.

    You are expected to work long hours. You won't rise in the company without either giving over your life to the company or bringing in business. The company is slowly switching to an 'up or out' approach. Because of this, it's a poor place for mid-career professionals.

    Benefits are also meager. There is no educational support money from the company and no substantial internal training efforts. In that way, it's a poor place to get your career start. If you're just starting out in your career, be warned that they will work you as much as they can.

    Give employees more appropriate compensation and raise educational/training benefits.
