I worked at Philips Healthcare full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

- Big company and great brand name. - Compensation is average but not too bad. - Peers were really smart and helping and helped me learn alot while I worked there for 3.5 years. - Good work/life balance - Great benefits which includes medical, dental, really good 401k match, employee stock purchase options, time-off and sick leaves.

Cons

- Frequent workforce reductions create a sense of insecurity among employees. - Too much cost cutting going on. - Management says they are open and transparent but all decisions are hidden and mostly hit employees with a surprise. - Lot of Outsourcing going on in the Foster City, CA office and most of the work has already been outsourced to Bangalore. - Very hard to get a promotion. Very hard to get a raise so its a good idea to negotiate before you join the company.

Advice to Management

Advice to the Senior Management (like GM and SVP) - You guys listen to the directors, Sr. Managers and lay-off engineers because a project failed. But engineers are just following guidelines from Project Managers, people managers and Directors who develop the guideline for the project and allocate resources (engineers). I think Project Managers, Sr. Manager and Directors should be fired first as they are actually responsible for the bad planning and management which lead to project failure. But the higher management will direct those senior members to FIRE ordinary engineers who just did what they were told. And all senior staff continues to reduce cost and take home fat bonuses where as a regular engineer is sitting home looking for another job.

I worked at Philips Healthcare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits and excellent life support programs

    Cons

Bot easy to rise up to higer positions as you may wish. It seem the only workaround is to get out and I was a lot of people leaving to Philips competitors as development paths are very limited

    Advice to Management

    Listen to employees

    Pros

Work-life balance, company mission and values, innovative products and solutions, good people, ideal office locations, market leader

    Cons

Leadership is sub-par for company of this size, office buildings are outdated and stale, flat matrix organization makes it challenging for advancement, promotion isn't easy to come by

    Advice to Management

Improve management and leadership, hire in better talent, improve office culture by investing in office buildings
