No opinion of CEO

Pros

Years of groundbreaking technical work has been done there, in a highly competitive field. Successful business with good work/life balance for employees.

Cons

As the business grew over the years, politics became more important. Philips corporate management does not appear to believe in promoting from within, thus limited opportunity for advancement into senior management.

Advice to Management

Be more attuned to the needs of a Silicon Valley workforce.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

You get to work with very bright, talented individuals, which can only help you grow professionally. They work on cutting edge technology, very exciting.

    Cons

The organization is very large, and lots of layers. They continually re-organize and you can't keep track of who is doing what job.

Philips provides an excellent opportunity to for growth, but finds it hard to keep the best employees.

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

Excellent training; great mentors/coaches if you can get your hands on one; slightly above average benefits package; leading innovator in the industry.

    Cons

Exclusive "high potential" program that inherently shuts out working mothers (inability to relocate, needs to minimize travel, etc.); fails to clean out the poor performers; poor "hire to fit" practices resulting in managers who are lacking essential skills.

    Advice to Management

Overhaul your management training program. Mandate training to ensure the essential skills are there (project management, performance coaching, etc.).
