Pros

Compared to most companies, POC jobs are relatively stable. They secure government funding so as long as projects are coming along, there is generally enough work to go around.

Cons

Very few of the SBIR grants actually generate real products. The majority of the contracts won are based on very far fetched proposals that may seem innovative but are in most cases near impossible (i guess that is why they win all the time). Company structure is very flat and though it has something like a hundred employees, none of the projects are a true collaboration. Projects won are generally carried out by small teams of 3 who most likely are not the most qualified (for the given topic) people in the company. Essentially this company is just another money farm that basically lives off of government grants but produces very few products. It is true that they have commercialized some products, commercialization rate is very very low.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to form a much stronger product development team. The bulk of the employees are scientists that have no know how on realizing products.
