I worked at Physiotherapy Associates

Pros

We used to have great clinicians. Now they've all left or been fired.

Cons

Dishonest senior executives and managers. All they care about is cutting costs regardless of the impact so that they can sell the company.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in your employees. Be honest. Stop treating them like sheep.

    I worked at Physiotherapy Associates

    Pros

    Benefits, it pays the rent.

    Cons

Draconian, Medieval, Dickensian work environment. Harassed by management for an unknown reason not related to work. Asked for feedback, was told to stay at my desk and when there was something to tell me I would be told, then I was written up. I was always glad when I had employees asked for feedback. Every e-mail, call and account was reviewed, and torn apart. Manager purposely and constantly created obstacles to hamper my productivity, then every month wrote me up, inexorably knowing I would be terminated. She could have used her time more effectively, and was eventually asked to leave the company. However, when I brought up my concerns, I was smacked down by management and HR for it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Never assume your choices are the best choices. You did an employee survey in 2008 and ignored it completely. That should be your first clue that something is deadly wrong. Your constant shake-ups in management are also symptomatic of negative issues. Your corporate culture appears to be cannabilizing the company.

A large health care organization with absolutely no HR function

I have been working at Physiotherapy Associates

    Pros

Great therapists out in the field (who are still with company)
Some youthful leaders below upper management
Higher standards for patient care than industry competitors

    Cons

Unstable management - VP structure changes pretty much every few months
No policies or procedures in place to protect employees - no real on-boarding or mentoring and no genuine employee handbook
Continuous focus on growth with no real plan - new clinics are opened up within five miles of where older clinics closed down just a year or two prior
Continuously losing top talent under questionable circumstances - COO now has the largest "enemies list" I have ever heard as he models himself on being a modern day Jack Welch who feels that 20% of his clinical pool should be replaced at any time - only Jack Welch never thought of licensed professionals with Doctorates as being so easily replaceable, which they aren't
Zero HR function for the organization - two HR consultants for over 3,500 employees who mean well, but have to overwhelmed by their workload. They are lead by a VP of "Talent Management" who is incompetent and duplicitous

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on retaining and developing your best talent
Do a better job of putting individuals who actually understand health care and how the outpatient industry works in some key leadership positions
