Current Employee - Assistant Manager
Current Employee - Assistant Manager

I have been working at Picture People part-time (less than an year)

Pros

Most of the people, the coworkers and customers, I work with are nice and easy to deal with. The kids are extremely cute, although some are quite bratty. Sales are simple if you know the ins and outs of the packages, including custom packages, not just the ones the company already put out there.

Cons

The holidays are terrible and we have to take as many sittings as possible. After the holidays isn't all that great either because if there aren't appointments, your work hours are severely cut. The higher ups only care if your average is high. People think it's a professional photo studio, it's not. They hardly train you for what you need to do and the pay is terrible.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being obsessed with just making money and treat your employees better. Also if you have the money, update your equipment and programs already. Darkroom crashes all the time and for a "professional" studio, you should have the capacity to shoot in raw, not low quality jpeg.

    Overworked, Underpaid, NEVER Appreciated

Former Employee - Member of the Management Team
Former Employee - Member of the Management Team

I worked at Picture People full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

-Team within the studio worked well together, became like a family
-Given computer programs to make your own revisions of charts and spreadsheets because the ones sent to you never worked or were old and outdated
-Working with customers to create bonds with their families
-Getting to meet new people every day
-Employees worked hard and were commited

    Cons

-Expected to work shifts of up to 12 hrs at times and not get a break
    -Constant verbal abuse from DMs
-Corporate is extremely uninvolved at the studio level
-Programs were old, not updated, crashed, didn't work and it often took hours sometimes days to get them back up and running
-Supplies were always running out even though we did orders on a weekly and monthly basis
-Favoritism was clearly shown to certain managers and associates
-DM was threatening, some people were written up and/or fired for things when others who had similar if not worse offenses did not get in trouble at all.
-Things were "hidden" from corporate and lies were told to protect favored employees
    -No customer service support
-No training provided for new employees
-Policies are so outdated and when asked for updates or revisions you are ignored and get in trouble
-No opportunity for advancement out of the studio level

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Undercover boss style is the way to go, there are so many things happening right under your nose and you all are oblivious because you use the DMs, who are the biggest offenders, as your go to people. Get into the studios and talk to the staff, management team especially. I have never worked so hard in my life at a job that I can honestly say was so unappreciative and ignored by the higher ups. For a company that thrives on making memories for families, there is no acknowledgement towards the life, value, or family of it's employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice to upper management would be to have a sense of what employee appreciation means and learn that if you treat your employees well they will work for you forever. Corporate needs to be more involved in hekping the employees , there is no protection, advice, encouragement or even acknowledgement from home office. District Manager's are passing along threatening information and really making employees feel like this is a company that just doesn't care it's employees.
