I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

This is a great place to work. They have an amazing discounts and monthly sales incentives.

Cons

The company is not very good on following up with stores. The stores usually only look good when some one is coming over for a visit. Upper management cut alot of corners. New company tools are never used at the store level despite the benefits it would bring to the business.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Home office should do more audits to save the company money.

I worked at Pier 1 Imports full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Employee discount!
    My co-workers.
Seeing the new product come in was very entertaining.

    Cons

I felt overworked and EXTREMELY underpaid.
High turnover rate of associates due to poor scheduling and inadequate compensation made developing a strong sales team almost impossible.

Training for management was inadequate at best.

Common HR practice was to progressively discipline towards a constructive termination. And if that wasn't moving fast enough the store manager would try to speed that process along by ostracizing that associate or making last minute scheduling changes.

The benefits for a part time associate (which is everyone but the asm and sm), were so costly and non beneficial, you were better off just NOT having them.

Policies were twisted so that at times you felt you were in a no win situation. i.e. return policy, time-clock policy, no retaliation policy, fraternization policy, open door policy. Really you were d__ned either way.

If you were under the age of 21, kiss job opportunity goodbye. Meaning you would be passed over for promotions.

    I'm not a fan of Pier 1
