I wish I could still love my job, but I'm too exhausted to remember why I should.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Fun, flexible management teams.
Wide range of associates and customers to work with.
    Visually stimulating environment.

    Cons

Lack of accountability in upper management
Almost entirely female workplace can get catty and petty
    Favoritism in upper management
Not enough accounting for traffic levels, store sizes, and other payroll effects
Physically exhausting (my once active lifestyle is now all consumed by work)
Too much stake placed upon Credit Card success
My now "full time" position is only 34 hours a week, before I was promoted I was working 40
I fear the company is moving in a direction that will eliminate the enjoyable visual merchandising opportunities we have in the stores now, it seems to be getting more cookie cutter every day
Inconsistent hours (I work anywhere from 6am-11pm every week)
High management turnover (generally not a good sign)
Managers and Assistant managers have huge expectations and responsibilities placed on them continuously, without the necessary support or time to execute them well

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do a thorough analysis of your management team from the top down. Ask for anonymous opinions from those working under regional and territory managers to find out how well they are actually doing in their supporting roles. Place a higher value on great experience for associates and customers than on a hard percentage of credit cards opened every day. Some people are not interested in the P1RCC, and that needs to be ok.

I worked at Pier 1 Imports full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Nice variety of products and great associates.

    Cons

Low pay. Consistently forced to be short staffed, which increases stress to work environment and drives a high employee turnover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase payroll for high traffic locations.
