Know what you're getting into, but it's a better place than most for retail.

Sales Lead (Current Employee)
Chicago, IL

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time for more than 3 years

Pros-Plenty of opportunities to work with people.
-No commission, so everybody's all on the same team.
-Good place to practice your decorative impulses on someone else's dime.
-Very flexible with requests off, so long as you put them far enough out.

Cons-All of the typical gripes that anyone would have about retail: lack of pay/hours, crazy customers
-Unless you're willing to relocate, limited advancement opportunities beyond first-step management.
-Company credit card practices border on predatory.

Advice to Senior Management-Be more realistic w/r/t time required to complete tasks.
-Ease up on credit card expectations.
-Be more welcoming to input from those most affected by in-store policy and more open about methodology when that input is considered.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
