I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (more than an year)

Pros

Fun group to work with, things are constantly changing (this can be good and bad). Employee discount.

Cons

Limited hours and advancement. Due to constant change, one could be at a disadvantage when trying to inform the customer.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actual productive communication with staff is sporadic and it is difficult to get accurate information unless you ask store manager only. Being able to have up to date accurate information for floor staff should be available at each and every shift.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Anywhere between two and six hours per shift. Pay is ok for a second job or if you are married.

    Cons

Do not really get weekends off. Sometimes go in in the evening and work until midnight. Have to work some holidays.

Know what you're getting into, but it's a better place than most for retail.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

-Plenty of opportunities to work with people.
-No commission, so everybody's all on the same team.
-Good place to practice your decorative impulses on someone else's dime.
-Very flexible with requests off, so long as you put them far enough out.

    Cons

-All of the typical gripes that anyone would have about retail: lack of pay/hours, crazy customers
-Unless you're willing to relocate, limited advancement opportunities beyond first-step management.
-Company credit card practices border on predatory.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Be more realistic w/r/t time required to complete tasks.
-Ease up on credit card expectations.
-Be more welcoming to input from those most affected by in-store policy and more open about methodology when that input is considered.
