I enjoyed working because I love the merchandise, customers and atmosphere.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports

Pros

I enjoyed the atmosphere and merchandise.

Cons

It wasn't a career. I only worked part-time hours. I am seeking a career, not just a job. The pay was also not great and there was no benefits.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Employee discount, good training and continuing education, higher than minimum wage, job is as helpful and educational as you want it to be

    Cons

Raises are hard to get and very small when given (even for promotions usually), Very limited number of full time positions, does not pay a living wage in most areas, very dangerous work conditions during freight shifts and when managing customer orders (dependent on specific store), minimal commission opportunities

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create more performance related bonuses for management, either pay associates more or expect less of them, standardize truck processing procedures (some stores are assisted and some are not), and don't be so slow to fire people that are holding the company back. Don't promote people just because they have been there a long time, choose the best people for management rather than just the most tenured

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Very flexible with giving requested days off, light workloads most days with the exception of handling headboards and cabinets when guys are not working. Very easy maintenance of floor displays and fixtures. Clients/customers are always a pleasure, wanting to learn as much about decor and interior design as possible.

    Cons

Not very many hours, everyone from sales associates to team leads and managers average less than 20 hours a week. The store does not get heavy traffic so for those who enjoy keeping busy, some days can be stagnant if there isn't the right amount of directive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide a system for accountability for floor fixtures and planograms.
