I worked at Pier 1 Imports full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Great Discount !!! Great people !!! Ability to invest in yourself and move up in the company. Great management training. Ability to customize your store visually to represent your area. Even once leaving the company in my management role to pursue another full time opportunity I remained attached to Pier 1, for seasonal help around the holidays, and to help with visual and floor moves. Couldn't give up the discount ! :-)

Cons

Payroll hours can be challenging. It can also be a physical job.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some of the expectations of the visual changes can be counterproductive.

Coworkers and products are all great. Policies, not so much.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Most managers are great. Everyone is super helpful to newbies. Coworkers are energetic and fun. Monthly meetings with role playing to help you get better at sales. 25% off all products (even clearance). Decent hourly salary. Fun atmosphere.

    Cons

Only 8-10 hours a week. No room for advancement. They act as if no males ever shop there and refer to all potential customers as "her" and "she". (ie, "make her shopping experience great!" "figure out what she's here for!") Items tend to be very overpriced. Huge push to force people to sign up for a credit card. We're told to always try and make the customer spend more money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We're ANNOYING customers when we constantly push credit cards and push more and more objects at them to buy. It makes "her" shopping experience less enjoyable. Employ less people, because no one can survive on 8-10 hours a week. It's ridiculous.
