Former Employee - Restaurant General Manager in Minneapolis, MN

I worked at Pizza Hut full-time (more than a year)

Pros

Endless opportunities for growth, fun, competitive environment

Cons

District Management was unfocused / distracted and really lacked the ability to mentor young leadership, and it often times caused people with high potential to taper off or wear out.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more people, you should really think about having enough general managers to operate your restaurants, and not expect 1 guy to help you run 3 different stores indefinitely.

I worked at Pizza Hut part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Free food. Free drinks. Depends on how nice your manager is and how much that manager's manager is tightening thumbscrews about food expenditures.

If you are a driver, you spend a lot of time on the road away from the workplace- that means not interacting with customers or dealing with orders as much. It is one of the fun parts of the job.

I tended to wash dishes and do dough prep during down time. Both are activities where you can easily zone out and the time passes at a decent pace.

People who are either dragging along the bottom or at a crossroads in life work there. The former can be difficult to work with; the latter can be interesting.

    Cons

The free food will make you fat.

You get a $2 dispatch fee, which many customers take to mean they don't need to tip you.

The job reinforces negative stereotypes about minorities not tipping- because sadly, they typically don't.

Your vehicle will suffer long term wear and tear that makes the job not worth it. And it will smell like pizza, not to you, but to everyone else who gets in your car.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dispatch fee increases based on how much is ordered or how far away you are. We are in the internet age with google maps and other things, this is definitely possible.

Company vehicles. NPC makes loads of money. It would not be hard to swing a company vehicle, or heck, at least some oil change coupons from the local auto shop or something.
