The work is rewarding and drives ones self to excellence, but it is truely a thankless job.

I have been working at Placer County (California)

Pros

The pay leads the industry for the geographic area and the non-monetary compensation puts Placer County, Health & Human Services over the top in terms of best places to work in the Sierra Foothills.

Cons

Upward mobility is difficult with Senior Staff, Supervisors, and Managers holding the same positions for long (often too long) periods of time.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

All organizations need to refresh their leadership periodically to stay competitive and innovative. It is time to plant new seeds in the organization and let them flourish to take local county government to the next level in support of the next generation of county constituents they are tasked with serving.

I worked at Placer County (California) full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

High Pay for little work. The management and union staff are some of the highest in the state and the county is not very big.

    Cons

Buddy system. Its very cut throat environment. If you want to move up the ladder you have to play the political game. There are many family members all working for the same court.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire some people with different backgrounds and give them a chance and listen to their advice.
