I have been working at Planet Beach

Pros

- Free use of services
- Good discount on product
- Easy work
- A calm atmosphere to work in
- Commission is usually pretty good

Cons

- Cut my hours from full time to part time without 30 days notice
- Treated very unfairly from other management, employees and the owner
- Seems just like high school with backstabbing and gossiping of employees (especially of me)
- Very competitive
- Strict company to work for

Advice to ManagementAdvice

To manager and owner:
- acknowledge when someone does a good job
- don't cut hours (especially for a full time employee) without any notice
- stop making it seem like i'm in high school all over again

Overall, I don't recommend working at Planet Beach. As most employees get treated like garbage. And most of the time a "clique" forms. Not a fun place to work.

It's fun at first but I recommend lining up another job after the February to April rush.

I have been working at Planet Beach

    Pros

Fun at first. Get to learn the basics of retail sales and customer service which is helpful in pursuing other options. Get to use services in salon for free. Pay isn't horrible in "busy season." Can make commission and bonuses if meeting goals and doing your marketing. It's not hard. You get to meet lots of people and will become comfortable talking to people. You get awesome discounts on products.

    Cons

If you're not a manager, you don't work mornings. There's only about 3 people that will work the salon year round, so if you're sick or have a conflict with work you're pretty much screwed. The owner literally threatens to fire everyone 5 times a month. They give you unrealistic goals to meet during slower months, and then get angry when you can't meet them. Everyone is expected to do a ridiculous amount of outside marketing on personal time, if you don't do your marketing or can't prove you did it you don't get your commission. It's very stressful with your manager calling and texting you all day everyday, which is unprofessional BUT most of the employees are very close because there's only a few of us. If the salon gets over-staffed, then you really have to worry about getting fired for something stupid.
When trying to meet goals, you have to push products on customers really hard. They normally arent interested. Also, you have to sell so many memberships a month, but no matter how much work you did on a membership, if the person comes when another consultant is working YOU GET NO CREDIT FOR ALL THE TIME YOU APPARENTLY WASTED ON THE CUSTOMER.
After the salon gets rid of all the seasonal people your hours will probably decrease, so line up another job. Plus that other job will come in handy on the day your incompetent coworkers decide to push you over the edge.
If you think working here will be easy, it isn't. The goals and pressure of meeting them is always over your head.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would recommend that the manager needs to appreciate the spa consultant that has been there CONSISTANTLY longest and gets the most tasks delegated to them. IF AN EMPLOYEE
LEAVES ON BAD TERMS, DO NOT HIRE THEM BACK. It makes it very awkward for the employees that were there when they originally left on bad terms. Employees will never change their behavior so quit giving the people that screw up and make customers angry second chances, they don't deserve it PLUS ITS ALWAYS THE PEOPLE THAY HAVE LEFT ON BAD TERMS BEFORE!! If management isn't careful, they will lose the only employee that is actually reliable and does what is asked of them the first time it is asked.
