I have been working at Poet - Ethanol

Pros

decent pay for the area, most coworkers at the plant level are competent, mid level management wants employees to succeed.

Cons

no work/life balance, no opportunity for growth, once you take a job with POET you are either a lifer or looking for another job. POET makes all of their employees sign a very broad non-compete, which basically says you can't work for another ethanol company anywhere POET MAY POTENTIALLY do business. constantly threatens and berates lower level employees with termination. Employee turnover rate extremely high. Senior management personnel don't even follow their own mantra(Teamwork, Communication, Leave Ego at the door). scary thing that most mid level engineers and management know less about the plants than the management and hourly employees that work there, yet treat them as ignorant and incompetent.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

pull your heads out from where the sun doesn't shine and realize that the company is stagnant and that you need to learn to trust and respect your employees. there is a reason the turn over rate for POET is apporximatley 30% at most of your plants.

I have been working at Poet - Ethanol full-time

    Pros

The best thing is knowing that my job is a critical part of making America energy independent. Always a new challenge, not the same old, same old.

Great team members. All are willing to pitch in when the situation calls for it. A very smart and hardworking group of people, and its a pleasure to work with them every day.

The plant itself is state of the art and everything an op's guy could want. Lots of things to optimize, very robust plant.

New system role-out, thanks to R&D and the other plants. How many companies could role out some of the recent major unit operations that POET has in the last year or so?

PPM and the other plants- got a question about your plant? There are 27+ people to ask how they do things.

    Cons

The movement to all HR related items being on-line has been horrible. If you have a PC at your normal workstation, its nice, but 80% or more of our team does not, and the STANZAifing of all things is a major obstacle. The process has become more important than the content . The PA process now has nothing to do with assessing performance, but is a lesson in resetting passwords countless times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't lose touch with the grassroots, family origins of the company.
