The company had a great mission statement, but not enough good employees to back it up.

Pros

Good people with good intentions

Cons

There is no appropriate consequence for employees who do not do their jobs well. Some employees simply are still employed because of seniority. They only do just enough to get by and that is not enough to make this company a quality company. Also, too much emphasis is put on billing, not on patient care. It seems that the company is more geared towards business rather than the general betterment of people's lives. There needs to be more reform in this company and a reevaluation of its employees. Better training and supervision is needed.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

In order to expect the entry-level employees to do their job well, you also need to do your job well.

It might help to have team building activities to help the employees be a more cohesive group. There is not much communication within the company.

Take your time and ask questions, get to know who you will be reporting to, do not relocate at your own expense.

    Pros

They pay well, benefits are moderate to good. The agency recieves funds from a tax to citizens, therefore some of the expectations that state and federally funded agencies have are not as stringent. They are expanding rapidly with this tax money, and have an airplane and other perks for upper managment.

    Cons

I knew of several coworkers who had been fired and then offered another position in the agency. The staff who reported to these folks were told of the upcoming firing before the person to be let go. I observed personnel being managed by scarcasm, slamming doors, raised voices and throwing things.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider ways to be more professional and employee friendly. Consider training and support as a way of retaining staff. There may be healthier ways for managers and vice presidents to manage stress, so perhaps some stress managment training for upper middle managment.

    Pros

Upward mobility due to limited length of employment of many of the staff and the high level of burnout.

    Cons

High stress and demand, limited support or structure, limited time for development of team, too focused on the business end of treatment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work to change the climate away from the "billable hour" and toward caring for clients' and clinicians' health and well-being. Do not allow, much less demand, staff (salaried or hourly) to work more than 40-45 hours per week, even if "production" drops in the short-term.
