    I have been working at Premera Blue Cross full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    Premera's leadership has an excellent understanding of the healthcare crisis our country is in, and is actively moving the company toward being a market leader under the new world under mandated Healthcare Reform legislation.

    Cons

    Not a technologically agile company, though becoming better at it all the time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pretty hard on mid-level management. Mentor your people at all levels - manager through VP.

    I worked at Premera Blue Cross full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Depending on the department you can have a flexible schedule. They also have good benefits (Health, Retirement, Etc.). The work you do can be interesting as long as you can get it approved by senior management.

    Cons

    So many meetings its impossible to get any real work done. Also, there seems to be a disconnect between senior management and the rest of the company, however to get any major projects approved they must go through senior management which involves a ton of red tape and justification. This whole process takes people away from the innovative work they should be doing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Spend more time getting feedback from the rank and file. Just because you've read some great new book on management doesn't mean it necessarily applies, and if you think it does, act on it -don't just talk about it in a management meeting.
