I have been working at Presagis

Pros

Free coffee and tea, good medical, dental and vision insurance, great co-workers, everyone is polite, nice, new offices, free parking.

Cons

Lots of overtime expected, little possibility of growth and promotion. A big deal if someone calls in sick. Constant worry who will be laid-off.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to customer expectaions. Disconnect between Sales and remainder of company. Various locations need to feel they work for the same company.

    I worked at Presagis

    Pros

    - interesting markets and good customer base gained during tenure of the company founder
    - competent engineering team assets
    - the company is located in Montreal with good access to public transit

    Cons

    - engineering resources are misguided by a management team that does not understand the requirements of the customers/markets served
    - entreprenurial/innovative contribution from engineers never leveraged by management team
    - senior management operates in the dark and is disconnected from what is going on in the company, despite the small size
    - executive management is not honest with employees nor peers, making a very acrimonious work environment and destroying company loyalty
    - senior positions are usually filled based on external "connections" rather than organic promotion of the competent employees
-behaviour of senior executives is often inappropriate both inside and outside the workplace
    - company reorganizes frequently without ever addressing/fixing the real issues
    - company has changed names twice to try to "reinvent" itself which has been a complete disaster both times

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - treat subordinates with respect
    - exhibit honest and fair behaviour in order to gain respect and loyalty of work force
    - promote employees based on merit, not by promoting or recruiting friends

    I worked at Presagis

    Pros

They renovated the toilets this year, the coffee is free. Despite the crappy company there are some nice people there.

    Cons

    - culture of blame rather than encourage
    - MICROMANAGEMENT
    - follows the corporate line of a parent company that made layoffs "due to the economy" at a time when the parent company made a profit of hundreds of millions of dollars
    - the total absense of mutual respect between employees
    - split departments--part in the US, part in Canada--means things are misunderstood and mishandled all the time
    - managers who have never even met their employees
    - regular reorganizations
    - too many directors and VPs most of whom are too self-centred and high on their own selves to even notice others are in the room--say hello to your people if you want them to think you are human!
    - factionalization of the company into competing units means there is never a sense of common accomplishment
    - use of shareware tools

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect your employees and maybe they will start respecting each other as well. The culture of fear you cultivate is one that makes people hate the company.
Stop reorganizing the company every six months and actually try to make something work rather than giving up before it has had a chance.
